Come along for an informal games meet-up and network with fellow games and digital businesses together with meeting the newly appointed UKIE CEO, Dr Jo Twist previously at Channel 4 and Karl Hilton, Managing Director at Crytek UK the UK arm of Germany-based Crytek formerly known as Free Radical Design.

Dr Jo Twist was appointed CEO of UKIE on January 9th 2012.  Dr Twist comes from Channel 4 as Commissioning Editor for Education and previous positions include Multiplatform Commissioner for BBC Entertainment and Switch, plus BBC Three’s Multiplatform Channel Editor.  With a strong background in education, creative technology and youth culture, Twist is a major coup for UKIE and brings with her a wealth of experience in all aspects of interactive entertainment including media, technical innovation and creativity, commercial and political issues.

Dr Jo Twist, CEO of UKIE commented – “I am delighted to be coming to Birmingham Science Park Aston and meet our members and people from the midlands games industry.  UKIE successfully partnered with Birmingham Science Park Aston in 2011 to support the entrepreneurial gaming sector culminating in the annual LAUNCH: Future Gaming & Digital Conference as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week for nearly 300 people. The conference three themes were Launching a Career, Launching a Business and Launching a Technology.  Once again I am delighted UKIE are continuing to partner with the Park, sit on their games advisory board, arrange meet-ups through to support their games incubator and Entrepreneurs for the Future programme for games businesses offering 6 months free support, mentoring and office space.”

Karl Hilton heads up Crytek UK, the UK arm of Germany-based Crytek formerly known as Free Radical Design when it was bought-out in 2009. As one of the leading video game developers based in the Midlands, Free Radical Design was best known for Second Sight and the TimeSplitters series. Crytek, is best known for the Crysis series of games.  Prior to being an owner and director of Free Radical Design, Karl was a lead artist at Rare Ltd now part of Microsoft Games Studios.
